A number of institutions across India will be celebrating World Physical Therapy Day on 8 September 2008.  Details of just some of these events are provided below:-

 

  • Amity Physiotherapy College

Amity Physiotherapy College organised a seminar on 8 September 2008 to mark World Physical Therapy Day in Amity Campus, Noida.  The main subject of the seminar was Movement for Health and Physiotherapy: An Indian Scenario.  The President of the Indian Association of Physiotherapists, Ali Irani, delivered the keynote address on the day.  Download a report and photos of the event [1mb pdf file]   Read press cuttings.

  • Dr M V Shetty College of Physiotherapy

Dr M V Shetty College of Physiotherapy have organised a Continuing Physiotherapy Education (CPE) programme covering various fields of physiotherapy as part of their World Physiotherapy Week celebrations from 8-12 September 2008.  This week will be inaugurated by Sri J Krishna Palemar, District Incharge Minister, Dakshin Kannada.  Blood donation and fruit distribution by the physios at the Govt. Wenlock Hospital, Mangalore will take place on 13 September.


  • Father Muller Medical College

Students perform a street play

The Department of Physiotherapy, Father Muller Medical College, Father Muller Charitable Institute, Mangalore, Karnataka, India, organised a public awareness programme on the occasion of World Physiotherapy Day 2008. This included an exhibition to create awareness of the importance of physiotherapy.  Brochures on various health problems including COPD, heart disease, low back pain, shoulder stiffness etc, and the importance of physical activities were released and distributed to the general public in English and local languages. 

The students of the department performed street plays to educate the public about the importance of physical fitness.


  • Max Hospitals

The physiotherapy department of Max Heart and Vascular Institute (MHVI) and Max Super Specialty Hospital (MSSH) celebrated World Physical Therapy Day on 8 September 2008 with a number of activities.  These included the performance of the skit "Lakshya" and a group song "Heal the World".  This was followed by the distribution of gift hampers to patients and attendants in MHVI and MSSH.

  • Southern Institute of Medical Sciences (SIMS)

Southern Institute of Medical Sciences "physiotherapy walk"

The Southern Institute of Medical Sciences organised a 5 day programme entitled "Cherish the profession by sharing the talents" to mark World Physical Therapy Day and increase the awareness of physiotherapy across the state. 

The programme included, a state wide cricket competition, fruit distribution to the elderly and orphans, a physiotherapy walk, paper/poster presentations by physiotherapy students, short courses on "Clinical Research Protocol for Physiotherapists" and "Clinical Management for the Diabetic Foot", and a dinner.


  • SPG College of Health Sciences

The students of SPG College of Health Sciences in Kolkata, West Bengal will observe World Physical Therapy Day 2008 by organising a rally and awareness programme on the street.
