Congress proceedings provide an international resource for the profession

Proceedings from the WCPT Congress in Singapore are now available for physical therapists around the world to use as a free professional resource.

Abstracts of all presentations and posters, along with recordings and PowerPoints from some focused symposia, panel discussions and debates can be viewed on the congress pages of the WCPT website.

“We know that those who attended the congress in May have been keen for all the procedings to be available as soon as possible, and we anticipate that the world of physical therapy in general will now be using them as a valuable resource,” said Tracy Bury, WCPT’s Director of Professional Policy.

“This is a valuable opportunity to learn from experts in their field on the profession's hottest topics.”

A total of 3450 delegates from 113 countries came to the congress – one of the best attended in WCPT’s history. Around 250 volunteers and over 100 exhibitors also attended.

There were 553 platform presentations, 1,585 posters, 25 focused symposia, 11 discussion panels, 18 seminars and 36 networking sessions.

The reception on blogs and social media has been strongly positive.

“The overwhelming feeling here is that it is wonderful to be in such a global environment with delegates being able to learn from each other and constantly challenge the local assumptions we make about what it is to ‘be a physiotherapist,’” wrote Jenny Setchell, from Queensland, Australia. As the largest physiotherapy conference, it offered much more than I expected."

“Being able to chat and spend time with peers from all over the world was inspiring,” said Stuart Palma, Professional Advisor at the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in the UK. “The event was an eye-opener, offering more learning, sharing and engagement opportunities than I had expected.”

American physical therapist Heidi Jannenga, who founded the WebPT company, said: “I’m still processing all the thought-provoking discussions that happened, and I’m confident the insight I gained will continue to inspire my own leadership efforts for a long time to come.”

"The WCPT Congress is a special event, worth the effort if time and resources permit,” wrote Michael Brennan, Chief Executive Officer of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. “A learning event of this size and scope, bringing together 3,500 global participants with so many perspectives, is something every physiotherapist and PTA should experience at least once in their career. “
