Professor Charlotte Häger announced as chair of Congress Programme Committee

The WCPT Executive Board has confirmed Swedish physical therapist Charlotte Häger as chair of the Congress Programme Committee, which will develop the content for the 2019 event in Geneva, Switzerland.

Charlotte, a neurological and musculoskeletal specialist at the Department of Community Medicine and Rehabilitation at Umeå University, brings extensive experience of organising national and international conferences to the committee.

“I’m deeply honoured to hold this position,” she says. “I’m ready for the task, and very much looking forward to working with colleagues from all over the world.”

A participant at every WCPT Congress since 1991, Charlotte was a member of the International Scientific Committee for the congresses in Singapore (2015) and Cape Town (2017).

“Charlotte is a respected member of the Swedish Association of Physiotherapists,” says WCPT Chief Executive Jonathon Kruger.

“WPCT is incredibly fortunate that such a high performing individual applied for this role. The WCPT staff team looks forward to a busy and productive time working with Charlotte to shape an interesting, diverse and educationally robust Congress programme for the global physical therapy community.”

Charlotte has been working to develop the scientific base of the profession since the 1980s, gaining her PhD in neurophysiology in 1995. Her research deals with sensorimotor control mechanisms and movement control, and has been recognised by Queen Silvia of Sweden.

She has completed seven terms on WCPT’s European Region working group on educational matters, and contributed to the preparations for all four educational congresses in the European region.

“The WCPT Congress is an exciting experience which can create real momentum,” she says. “It provides a fantastic opportunity to discuss common problems and challenges, and appreciate the cultural differences and similarities in the way the profession looks all over the world. This is a true, broad presentation of what physiotherapy stands for globally."

The WCPT Congress, held in conjunction with the WCPT General Meeting, takes place in Geneva, Switzerland, on 10-13 May 2019.

The location offers unparalleled opportunities for the global physical therapy community to collaborate with international non-governmental organisations. Other members of the Congress Programme Committee will be announced soon.
