From the Secretary General and President
Welcome to the November issue of e-update. This month we held the 101st Executive Committee meeting at the WCPT offices in London. To mark the occasion a celebratory dinner was held, for which we were joined by WCPT's former President, David Teager and former Secretary General, Margaret Knight. The evening provided the perfect opportunity to reflect on the confederation's achievements over the years and the opportunities and challenges we face today.
One of our major current objectives is the launch of the new WCPT website in March 2009. For this we are launching a photography competition to portray the international face of physical therapy (please see article below for details). So please, pick up your camera and we look forward to receiving your entries.
If you would like to use all or part of this E-letter for your own newsletters/websites then please feel free. We need your assistance to reach the profession around the world, so please send this e-update to your members.
Kind regards,
Brenda J Myers and Marilyn Moffat
Now is your chance to become involved in how physical therapy is globally portrayed. WCPT is launching an international photography competition, open to amateurs and professional photographers alike.
We are seeking outstanding images from across the full range of physical therapy; practice, education and research. The photographs may be used on WCPT's website, in print publications and in presentations.
The images selected will:
- reflect practice of high quality
- show physical therapy across the lifespan
- illustrate the full scope of practice and a variety of practice settings
Images are to be taken at the best quality available. When photographs are submitted, please also provide evidence that any necessary permissions have been obtained from any person/s featured in the photographs. Students/models/actors may be used.
The closing date for entries is 20th January 2009. Please email your entries (or direct any enquiries you may have) to Mia Lockner at mlockner@wcpt.org. All winning entries and selected photographs will be featured on the WCPT website.

The Irish Society of Chartered Physiotherapists (ISCP) would like to alert colleagues in other member organisations to their concerns about possible inappropriate applications.
According to the WCPT Declaration of Principle (1995), "The titles of physiotherapist and physical therapist (and physiotherapy and physical therapy) may be used interchangeably and are the sole preserve of persons who hold qualifications approved by the national professional bodies which are members of WCPT".
In the Republic of Ireland a group calling themselves "Physical Therapists" are not eligible for ISCP membership and are not permitted to work in the National Public Health Service in the Republic of Ireland. It has come to the attention of the ISCP that members of this group have been applying to other countries to work as physiotherapists/physical therapists. In the interests of protecting the public in other countries, the ISCP has asked that if you are aware of any such applications you please contact them at ruaidhrioconnor@rcsi.ie.

We are more than happy to carry out any necessary further research, conduct interviews etc.
