The final winner and runners-up will be announced at the end of March.

Online Continuing Education
WCPT and Educata have partnered to provide the first ever global online continuing education for physical therapists.
Educata offers a broad spectrum of courses covering areas as diverse as orthopaedics and cardiovascular/pulmonary to geriatrics and oncology. The courses are taught by top-ranked educators and experienced clinicians and combine visuals and interactive technology to provide a rich, highly engaging learning environment.
WCPT believes that in many countries, costs and distances make it very difficult for therapists to gain access to ongoing training and education. This web-based platform addresses this need and ensures physical therapists around the world have a gateway to educational opportunities for ongoing professional improvement.
For further details, please see the WCPT website at http://www.wcpt.org/links/online_education.php.
WCPT has recently published a new keynote titled Physical therapists - the rights of people with disabilities. It is based on a keynote speech by Judith E Heumann presented at the 15th International Congress of the World Confederation for Physical Therapy, 3rd June 2007, Vancouver, Canada.
The keynote is available for download from the WCPT website at http://www.wcpt.org/common/docs/keynotes/KN-Heumann.pdf.
An invitation has been sent to all WCPT Regions to nominate two or more individuals for possible membership to the awards committee. Member organisations wishing to put forward a nomination should contact their Region. Nominations are to be sent to mlockner@wcpt.org and must be received by 24th March 2009.
The appointed members of the awards committee will be decided by the Executive Committee during their April 2009 meeting. If you require any further information please contact Mia Lockner at mlockner@wcpt.org.
Draft Position Statement on Record Keeping
A draft position statement on physical therapy record keeping, storage and retrieval along with accompanying guidelines is now available on the WCPT website. The latest draft incorporates feedback received from member organisations and has been thoroughly reviewed by the Executive Committee in preparation for presentation at the next general meeting. If you have comments and feedback on the draft that you would like to be considered in the final edit prior to the 17th General Meeting in 2011 please submit them.
The position statement, guidelines and instructions to provide feedback are available at: http://www.wcpt.org/policies/position/recordkeeping/index.php
Listing of Education Programmes
At the WCPT General Meeting in 2007, a motion encouraging member organisations to maintain lists of recognised/accredited physical therapy education programmes was adopted. The secretariat has been surveying member organisation's websites to determine the availability of lists with the intent of providing links from the WCPT website. Where lists do not exist on websites, we will be contacting member organisations to determine if lists exist in another form and the best way to provide access.
Patient satisfaction with outpatient physical therapy - an international team of researchers, led by Roger Nelson from the USA, are undertaking research to assess the international validity and cultural sensitivity of a patient satisfaction instrument. They are keen to recruit more international sites and will be in touch with WCPT's member organisations to help promote the opportunity.
Reminder: WCPT, the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) and the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA) are holding an international policy summit on Advanced Scope of Practice and Direct Access in Physical Therapy in Washington DC, USA from 22-24 October 2009. This will be especially relevant to those involved in policy, service development and negotiations with governments
The objective of the summit is to share international experiences in developing and implementing policy in these areas. A combination of high profile presenters, posters and discussion sessions will help to address key questions. A working group will also be formed to take forwards the outcomes from the Summit.
Put the date in your diaries and visit the Summit’s dedicated website (which is now up and running) for more information as it becomes available: http://directaccesssummit.com.
If you have any items which may be suitable for the April issue of WCPT News, please email our Editor at news@wcpt.org. Do remember, that we are always looking for contributions from our member organisations, regions and subgroups and that you only have to send us an outline of your proposal. We are more than happy to carry out any necessary further research, conduct interviews etc.
