World Physical Therapy Day 2009 activities - Ghana

Ghana celebrated World Physical Therapy Day on 8th September with two significant events taking place, achieving a good amount of publicity.

The Chairs of the WCPT Africa Region President (Dr Esther Nkandu) launched the official countdown of the Africa Region Congress to be hosted in Ghana by the Ghana Association of Physiotherapists (GAP) in July 2010. GAP also launched the maiden edition of its Journal called “Ghana Journal of Physiotherapy”. It is interesting to note that the maiden edition of the journal contains some articles from Nigeria and for us in Ghana it was very refreshing and exciting because physiotherapy education in Ghana has enjoyed a lot of support from Nigeria. This, we believe also goes a long way to strengthen the bond of friendship between the Ghana and Nigeria physiotherapy associations.

We look forward to receive more manuscripts from Nigeria, other sister African countries and the world at large.

Overall this year’s WCPT day celebration in Ghana could be described as wonderful and glamorous and probably one of the best things to have happened to Ghana Physiotherapy this year.
