Biography

Esko A Mälkiä has been associated with, and has been a full professor or Chair (1988-2006) in physiotherapy in University of Jyväskylä since 1988. He serves also as an adjunct professor in special education at the University of Jyväskylä , and in therapeutic exercise, University of Kuopio Finland. In 1988 he was a guest professor in Physical Therapy in University of Umeå, Sweden.

He received a BA in special education, BSc in physical education, MSc in exercise physiology, LSc in health sciences and exercise physiology and PhD in health sciences from the University of Jyväskylä and diploma in the school of physiotherapy in Jyväskylä. He has been a supervisor for > 160 master theses and 10 dissertations in Physical Therapy at the University of Jyväskylä. He has been referee for 13 international dissertations and for several international scientific journals and given statements for academic appointments to office in Physical Therapy or Occupational Therapy for many universities. He has been member of ISC of WCPT representing Europe and served in RI 12 years as chair of commission on leisure, recreation and physical activities. He has published > 250 different titles (> 100 peer reviewed) especially in the field of physical activity measurement and its applications to enhance health and to gain outcome in rehabilitation.
