Focused symposium: Qualitative Research Evidence: How Does it Contribute to Evidence-Based Practice? (Speaker)
Biography
Simon Igo is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physiotherapy and Dietetics, Coventry University, where he co-ordinates the faculty wide evidence-based practice (EBP) and research curriculum for undergraduate health care professional students. Simon specialises in teaching evidence-based practice to undergraduates, post-graduates and clinicians. His teaching approach enables learners to use a pragmatic and sensible application of "best evidence" to inform clinical decision-making. He has designed, written and delivered bespoke short courses to health care professionals employed by the National Health Service in the United Kingdom. Other specialist interest areas in teaching include the use of online learning in supporting inter-professional education, and he currently trains staff and students in online e-facilitation techniques. Simon holds Bachelor of Sciences (Hons) and Master of Sciences degrees from The University of Greenwich and is studying for a professional doctorate at the University of Bath. Current research interests include investigating the essential structure of practicing EBP in qualified physiotherapists who have received formal EBP education. Simon is using philosophy and a phenomenological research approach to explore and describe the conscious experience of practising EBP. He has presented research nationally and internationally relating to inter-professional online learning as well as writing a recent chapter that explores a pragmatic approach to using current "evidence" in health care practice.
