Biography

Dr Juliette Hussey is currently a senior lecturer and head of the discipline of Physiotherapy in the School of Medicine Trinity College Dublin. She qualified as a Physiotherapist in 1983 and worked for 5 years in the Mater Hospital in Dublin. She then moved to Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital in London for four years and undertook her MSc during that time. She returned to Dublin in 1992 to a lecturing position in Trinity College Dublin. The research for her PhD focused on the area of activity levels in children and how activity levels impact on risk factors for cardiovascular disease. She has supervised 14 post graduate students in the area of exercise in the prevention and treatment of chronic disease. Presently she is supervising six post graduate students of whom three are involved in research in exercise in oncology. In 2001/ 2002 she set up an MSc in Cardiac Rehabilitation and Prevention which is the first of its kind in Europe and she was coordinator of the course until 2003. She developed the MSc in Respiratory Physiotherapy in 2008. She has co-edited two books in her research areas. She is a member of the Irish Health Service Executive Education,Training and Research Committee.
