Biography

Dr. Teixeira-Salmela is an Associate Professor of the Department of Physiotherapy at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, where she teaches both graduate and undergraduate courses and supervises Master and Ph.D. students. She has completed her masters and doctoral studies at Queens University in Kingston, Canada and a post-doctorate at the Université de Montréal, Canada. She is currently doing research on the assessment methods and the effects of interventions of stroke patients. She has published widely in Brazil as well as in numerous prestigious international journals. She has often been invited to speak in Brazil, as well as internationally. Her research is widely cited in her areas of interest. She has acted as head of department, graduate studies and currently, as a representative of the graduate commission in Brazil, which coordinates all national graduate physical therapy programs. She acts as a reviewer on several international and national journals and is in the editorial board of the three main Brazilian physical therapy journals. She is also fluent in Portuguese, Spanish and French and has advanced statistical and computer skills. She is married and has three Labrador dogs of three different colours.
