Rebecca States BA, Psychology, MA, Movement Sciences, PhD, Motor Control

  • Associate Professor in Physical Therapy
  • Ten peer-reviewed publications including in articles in Journal of Neurologic Physical Therapy, Journal ofAllied Health,and Journal of Motor Behavior, plus three federally funded grants (NIH, NSF, and HRSA).
  • Community-based exercise and wellness programs for older urban adults, with or without disabilities.

Primarily an educator in physical therapy at Long Island University — Brooklyn Campus, a teaching institution, Dr. States' has also co-directed federally funded grants on Community-based health education for prevention education for older urban adults. Her recent work focuses on assessing the evidence for overground physical therapy gait training for people with chronic stroke, and developing and investigating a community-based exercise program for people with Parkinson's disease.
