Biography

After many years in clinical practice, Karen moved into full time education in 1996 and is now an Associate Head in the School of Health and Emergency Professions at the University of Hertfordshire and Professional Lead for Physiotherapy. Her role includes teaching, management and leading on professional and commercial activities. She supervises M level dissertations that draw on qualitative methods. She is an external examiner and a CSP visitor and is currently Vice Chair of the CSP Education Forum. She has been a member of the Standards Committee of IFOMPT since 2000. She is also a member of the Editorial Committee of Manual Therapy journal and is responsible for the masterclass section. She also sits on the Editorial Board of Haemophilia journal. Karen completed a Masters in Physiotherapy Studies at the University of Queensland in 1993 and completed her PhD, a qualitative study exploring the impact of haemophilia on quality of life, in 2005. She is a member of the MACP and was Chair of the MACP from 1997-2001. Karen was awarded a Fellowship of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in November 2008 for her contribution to professional practice, promotion of education and standards in clinical practice, research and development of the knowledge base of the profession.
