Biography

Dr. Hautala has a background of physical therapy, exercise physiology and biomechanics. He gained his doctorate from the faculty of medicine at the University of Oulu in Finland from the field of physiology focusing physical exercise and autonomic nervous system. Dr. Hautala has worked as a post-doc human genomics researcher in the laboratory of the Pennington  Biomedical Research Center in USA where he familiarized himself with molecular biology and methods of genetic analysis. Dr. Hautala was appointed adjunct professor of physical therapy at the University of Jyväskylä in 2007. At the present he works as a senior-scientist in the cardiology research group at the University of Oulu and Verve Research in Oulu. The main research interests of Dr. Hautala are in the areas of physical exercise and autonomic nervous system, especially physiological and genetical background of cardiovascular autonomic regulation and individual exercise training induced responses both in healthy subjects and in patients with cardiac diseases. He has published 30 scientific manuscripts in peer reviewed journal and over 60 peer reviewed abstracts. Dr. Hautala serves as a reviewer for many journals, including American Journal of Physiology, Journal of Applied Physiology, and Neuroscience and Biobehavioural Reviews.
