Biography
Dr. Bo Fernhall is Professor of Kinesiology and Community Health and a former Associate Dean for Research and Academic Affairs in College of Applied Health Sciences at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the USA. He is the Director of the Exercise and Cardiovascular Research Laboratory and previously directed cardiac rehabilitation programs for over 20 years. Dr. Fernhall has won several national research awards, including the Lawrence Rarick National Research Award for his research on physical activity in persons with disabilities. Dr. Fernhall was elected to the American Academy of Kinesiology and Physical Education in 2005. He is a Fellow of the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation. Dr. Fernhall's research focuses on the effect of physical activity and exercise on cardiovascular function. He has published more than 150 scientific manuscripts in peer reviewed journal, over 200 peer reviewed abstracts, multiple book chapters, and one book. He has an extensive history of external funding and currently has more than $5,000,000 in external research funding. Dr, Fernhall is an Associate Editor for Medicine and Science in Sports and Exercise, the official journal of the American College of Sports Medicine. He also serves on the Editorial Boards of Journal of Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation and Prevention, Adapted Physical Activity Quarterly. He serves as a reviewer for many other journals, including American Journal of Hypertension, American Journal of Physiology, Acta Physiologica, American Journal of Cardiology, and The Lancet.
