Focused symposium:  Physical Therapy Leadership in Disability and HIV: Sharing International Perspectives (Speaker)

Biography

Julie Hard earned her Master's Degree in Physiotherapy at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada. Julie presently works at the Canadian Working Group on HIV and Rehabilitation as Mentorship and Curriculum Coordinator, providing educational opportunities for rehabilitation professionals to learn more about rehabilitation in the context of HIV. Julie also provides a clinical perspective through working with people living with HIV in her role within the Inner City Health Program at St. Michael's Hospital in Toronto. She has presented at several conferences on her work in HIV mentorship including presentations at the Canadian National Physiotherapy Congress 2009, Ontario HIV Treatment Network Research Conference 2008 and 2009. Julie has also published on the topic of HIV and exercise impacts in women (HIV/AIDS, Exercise and Women's Health Research. Exercise and Women's Health Research. NOVA Biomedical, 2008 p. 157-167). As Chair of the International Health Division of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association and Founder of the Kenya Working Group of the International Centre for Disability and Rehabilitation at the University of Toronto, Julie's interest in HIV care extends beyond Canadian borders. She has been awarded the International Health Award by the Canadian Physiotherapy Association for her involvement in global initiatives in community based rehabilitation.
