Biography

Hellen Myezwa, PhD, is a physical therapist, lecturer and researcher with an interest in HIV, disability and rehabilitation. She completed her PhD with a focus on mainstreaming HIV into physiotherapy education at the University of Witwatersrand South Africa. Hellen in currently involved in supervising post-graduate students in HIV research, and reviewing HIV input into physiotherapy curricula. Previously, Hellen worked in community-based rehabilitation for 15 years, including treating people living with HIV at both community and hospital level. As part of the provincial health team she was involved in developing home based care programmes where the concept of community participation and empowerment was strongly promoted. Subsequently as the health systems coordinator for South and east Africa under the German Development cooperation (GTZ) she was responsible for the developing a programme for mainstreaming HIV into all programmes funded by GTZ.
