Biography

A pediatric physical therapist for over 30 years, Kristie Bjornson is an assistant professor of Pediatrics with an adjunct appointment in Rehabilitation Medicine, School of Medicine at the University of Washington, Seattle, WA. Currently she has a NIH Career Development Award (K23) focusing on the measurement of community based physical activity and participation as it relates to body composition in ambulatory children with CP with application to clinical outcomes research. She is a co-investigator in federally funded projects developing patient reported outcomes of physical activity performance and the effectiveness of oral Baclofen. Board, certified as a Pediatric Specialist by the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties, she continues a home-based birth to three practice in western Washington State. Since 1989, she has worked with Spasticity Management Clinic at Seattle Children's Hospital, serving as the project coordinator/co-investigator with publications of a randomized clinical trial (RCT) and meta-analysis of selective dorsal rhizotomy (McLaughin, et al, 1998; McLaughlin et al, 2002), RCT of botulinum toxin-A in the lower extremity in CP(Bjornson et al, 2007)and a descriptive cross sectional study of intrathecal baclofen (ITB) therapy in youth with CP (Bjornson et al, 2006).
