Biography

Carilus Okidi has twenty-nine years of experience as a physiotherapist. Having graduated with his Diploma in Physiotherapy from the Medical College in Nairobi in 1980, he went on to receive his Advanced Diploma in Orthoapedics in Sports Injuries in 1987. He began his career with fourteen years of clinical practice in large urban hospitals within Kisii and Kisumu Districts in Kenya covering all sections and departments. He has been actively involved in his professional association as the Chairperson for the Kenya Society for Physiotherapists Nyanza Branch from 1997 — 2009. He moved into community-based development work in 1994 as part of the Catholic Diocese of Homa Bay and Kisii. The Disability Service Programme was established in 2006 under his leadership. Since that time, he has been participated in two international conferences as a symposium presenter at the World AIDS 2006 and WCPT 2007. McMaster University and the University of Toronto, Schools of Rehabilitation in Canada have recognized him as a qualified student preceptor since 2003.
