June 2010

From the President and Secretary General

Physical therapy is a truly global profession with WCPT member organisations in 101 countries and physical therapists recognised around the world as having an important role in the health of populations. The profession’s growth since WCPT was founded in 1951 has been made possible through the vision and leadership of many physical therapists and WCPT member organisations. The Mildred Elson Award for international leadership was named after the first President of WCPT, who was also the first recipient of the award in 1987. In 2007 the WCPT awards programme was expanded to recognise outstanding contributions to the development of WCPT and the profession internationally as well as contributions to global health. The deadline for the 2011 awards is 31 July and we encourage you to review the details of the WCPT awards programme and consider nominations.

Kind regards,
Marilyn Moffat and Brenda J Myers

It's approaching that time of the year when planning for World Physical Therapy Day gets started. With nearly 40 of our member organisations marking the day during 2009, we are looking to make the events taking place in 2010 even bigger and better!
