Discussions at international UN and WHO level meetings can seem distant from the front line of service delivery. However, attendance at recent meetings where there was increasing reference to issues of great concern to physical therapists including the determinants of health, non-communicable diseases and their risk factors, prevention and physical activity was a reminder that they are relevant to us all. They are a call for us to make people more aware of physical therapy's role in helping people be healthy. Physical therapists can promote health not just by providing services but also by participating in dialogue and action to transform health service delivery and find new opportunities to collaborate with other health professions, communities, government and business.

Decade of Action for Road Safety
One year on, the global commitment to the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 intensifies.
On 11 May 2011, the Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 was launched in more than 100 countries, with one goal: to prevent five million road traffic deaths globally by 2020. Moving from the Global Plan for the Decade to national action, many countries have taken significant concrete measures towards improving road safety. The recent UN General Assembly resolution on global road safety sponsored by more than 80 countries gives further impetus to the Decade by calling on countries to implement road safety activities in each of the five pillars of the Global Plan.
