Regulation

The goal of professional regulation is to protect the public by ensuring that physical therapists provide safe and competent care/services. The approach to regulation and the specific regulatory mechanisms will vary by jurisdiction but scope of practice including the right to direct access, competency standards, professional conduct and processes to ensure standards are met will usually be addressed.

Second World Health Professions Conference on Regulation
organised by WCPT and the World Health Professions' Alliance
18-19 February 2010
Geneva, Switzerland

The World Health Professions Alliance and the World Confederation for Physical Therapy are pleased to announce the second World Health Professions Conference on Regulation (WHPCR).  The aim of the WHPCR 2010 will be to shape the future of health profession regulation within the context of the redesign of global health systems and evolving roles, always keeping in mind that public protection is the primary objective of health professional regulation.

Regulation survey - participate now

In preparation for this exciting conference, a global survey on Health Professions Regulation has been developed and recently launched.  Every participant (and interested person) is invited to complete the survey at http://whpcr2010.questionpro.com

The goal of the survey is to provide an overview of the diversity and scope of regulation models throughout five professions of focus: medical doctors, pharmacists, nurses, dentists and physical therapists/physiotherapists.  It will also enable us to gather and share contact details of national regulatory bodies and/or the national associations of regulators to facilitate their interaction with potential contacts and collaborators.  The results of this survey will be presented at the second WHPCR in February 2010.

If you are interested in participating in the WHPCR 2010, please visit www.whpa.org/whpcr2010 for information on abstract submission, registration and accommodation.
