provide information search and discovery platforms (Ovid Gateway and SilverPlatter) to access premier electronic content, including a growing list of 1,200 journals, over 500 books, and more than 200 databases. Databases covered include: AMED, CINAHL, EMBASE, Evidence Based Medicine Reviews, Global Health Archive, Medline and PsycINFO. This is a subscription service but packages include a 24 hour option.
EBSCOHost EBSCO Information Services is a leading service provider of e-journal, e-book and e-journal package and print subscriptions, e-resource management tools, full-text and secondary databases, and related services for all types of libraries and research organizations. Its database coverage includes AMED, CINAHL, MEDLINE, Cochrane, SocINDEX and SPORTDiscus. This is a subscription service.
Individual Databases
AMED (Allied and Complementary Medicine) AMED is a bibliographic database produced by the Health Care Information Service of the British Library. It covers a selection of journals in three separate subject areas: several professions allied to medicine, complementary medicine & palliative care. It is not accessible for free. OVID and EBSCO have internet versions. Subscriptions depend on the number of users.

ASSIA Applied Social Sciences Index & Abstracts covers health, social services, psychology, sociology, economics, politics, race relations and education.
CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health) CINHAL has a strong focus on nursing and allied health literature. The abstracts, when available and with publisher permission, are included in the database to assist with the evaluation of journal articles. Currently abstracts for more than 924 journal titles (active and inactive) are available.
Individuals can no longer search via CINAHLDirect. Access is via institutions or services such as EBSCO and OVID.
EMBASE.comThe new, integrated web-based service that allows searching from more than 18 million bibliographic records from EMBASE and MEDLINE. There is a free demo, but you need to subscribe to gain full access.
ERIC Database of Educational Resources Information Center that includes health-related educational information. It
provides free access to more than 1.2 million bibliographic records of journal articles and other education-related materials and, if available, includes links to full text.
ExtraMEDThe ExtraMED database contains the full text, as page images, of over 300 Third World biomedical journals. Ten CD-ROM disks are issued each production year, and indexes cumulate. Taking its name from the fact that it comprises journals that are 'extra' to MEDLINE, ExtraMED focuses on journals that are largely excluded from the international indexes. The ExtraMED Consortium of Journals was originally selected through WHO's various Index Medicus projects (see below). It is the largest source of full text biomedical literature from developing countries. It can be accessed via the Dialog Library as database number 467 and participates in OCLC (OCLC co-operative).
Health Internetwork HINARI Access in English Français Español The Health InterNetwork was created to bridge the "digital divide" in health, ensuring that relevant information - and the technologies to deliver it are widely available effectively used by health personnel: professionals, researchers scientists, policy makers. More than 2000 journals, databases, compendia and other publications are now accessible online. Regional health and medical databases have been compiled to complement the internationally known bibliographical indexes such as MEDLINE. The Regional medical indexes, published by or under the auspices of WHO Regional Offices, give access to bibliographical information about the health material published locally.

HMIC The Health Management and Policy Database, from The Healthcare Management Information Consortium (HMIC), is an invaluable source of information for health care administrators and managers. This unique product is updated bi-monthly and contains essential information from two key institutions: the Library & Information Services of the Department of Health, England and the King's Fund Information & Library Service (England).
PubMed A service of the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), provides free access to over 17 million citations from MEDLINE and additional life science journals. PoplineThe world's largest bibliographic database on population, family planning, and related health issues. Popline provides citations with abstracts for over 290,000 records representing published and unpublished literature in the field. There is a facility for ordering copies of articles.
ScienceDirect access the 1800 journals from Elsevier including Physiotherapy and Manual Therapy. Guests can search and view journal contents and abstracts. There is a pay-per-view option for full-text. You can also set up contents alerts for selected journals.
