Thank you for your interest in the International Organization of Physical Therapists in Women's Health!
IOPTWH has 17 member countries and many "Friends" groups around the globe. Please contact us if your organization wishes to join us or if your organization needs assistance with women's health physical therapy issues.
Please note that our website contains information on how to join our list-serves on obstetrics, pelvic pain and/or incontinence. We invite individuals from member and non-member countries to contribute, post inquiries, and to learn from one another.
The objectives of this organization are:
- To foster cooperation between physical therapists practicing in women's health throughout the world.
- To encourage improved standards and consistency of practice in women's health care by physical therapists.
- To advance practice by communication and exchange of information.
- To encourage scientific research and promote opportunities for the spread of knowledge of new developments in the field of women's health.
- To assist WCPT member countries in the development of recognized Sub-sections in women's health.
Our Mission:
The purpose of the International Organization of Physical Therapist in Women's Health is to provide a means by which WCPT members having a common interest in the physical therapy problems and concerns of women may meet, confer, and promote these interests.
The following is taken from the WCPT Quadrennial Report for the period 2003-2007
Worldwide awareness is growing that physical therapists have an important role to play
in women’s health issues, and IOPTWH has encouraged this with events, a website and newsletter fostering communication and a sense of identity for those with a special
interest in this field. A seminar on pelvic floor research, held in Slovenia in 2005, attracted participants from around the world and during the event the IOPTWH Executive
Committee developed a strategic plan that will chart the Sub Group’s course for the next
four years – to be voted on by delegates at the IOPTWH general business meeting in
Vancouver, 2007. One of the group’s most successful ventures has been the launch of
its “Listserves” – online communities for physiotherapists involved with IOPTWH member
organisations with particular areas of interest and expertise. They allow members to
communicate directly, share expertise and provide feedback on practice and research.
