Bio
Janke de Groot, P.T., PhD is an Associate
Professor in the Research group “Lifestyle and Health” at the HU University of Applied Sciences and a senior researcher
at the Netherlands Institute for Health Services Research (NIVEL) in Utrecht, the Netherlands. She worked as a
physical therapist
for 7 years in the United States. In 2010, she received her Ph.D. from the Faculty of Medicine of Utrecht University. For over 10 years, her research
has focused on physical activity, fitness
and health in children with
chronic disease or physical disability. She currently she leads the Fit for the Future! consortium in the Netherlands, a project including
both national research
groups and
pediatric physical therapist, all working together towards interventions to improve fitness and
participation in physical activity
in children with childhood disability or chronic conditions. In the last few years, she has become more
interested in the role of society and organization of healthcare services on
outcomes of healthcare interventions. At
NIVEL, she is leads the group “Quality of Care”. Dr. de Groot has been
awarded several large research grants in the last 10 years and published
articles, book
chapters and guidelines. She is member of
the review board of Pediatric
Physical Therapy as well as the Dutch
association of Physical
Therapy and the European
Workgroup on Pediatric Work Physiology.
