Galantino, Mary Lou

Dr. Galantino is a Distinguished Professor at Stockton University, Adjunct Scholar and Associate Professor in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Pennsylvania where she conducts research on integrative medicine and chronic diseases. She has extensive experience with the HIV population and has been an advocate locally and nationally for rehabilitation services since the early 1980’s through her training at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston TX. She established the HIV SIG of the Oncology Section of the APTA in 1993 and served as the Research Chair for over a decade.  She received HRSA government grants in Texas and New Jersey and established community based rehabilitation interventions for people living with HIV. Dr. Galantino has published extensively on cancer and HIV, including two HIV texts. She conducts research at the Garden State Infectious Disease Clinic in Voorhees, NJ. in concert with Dr. Kietrys at Rutgers University.  Through an APTA Oncology Grant, they explored the benefit of yoga for HIV distal sensory neuropathy and often present for International HIV & Aging Conferences to promote wellness across the lifespan. Through her Fulbright Specialist Award in South Africa, Dr. Galantino researches HIV disability and is a visiting professor at the University of Witwatersrand. She is excited to serve other countries in establishing cancer and HIV rehabilitation programs.
