The Nigeria Society of Physiotherapy came all out in all colours to mark World Physiotherapy Day 2012. All around the country, in the 36 states and the federal capital territory, activities were organised: health walks, health talks, symposia, community outreach programmes, road shows, dance aerobics, helplines and health checks. The Lagos State Chapter kicked off the week-long activities with extensive publicity that began on Monday 3rd September 2012 with a series of activities on TV, radio and print media across most institutions in Lagos to join the advocacy and campaign against non-communicable diseases (NCDs) in their jurisdiction with the aim of reaching a far wider audience.
The activities then culminated in the grand finale on the 8th September. The activity for the day was baseline screening and a dance aerobics session conducted by fitness experts where the general public was invited making it a fun and fulfilled day.
Prior to the week’s celebrations the society had circulated information flyers as a build up to the activities to mark World Physical Therapy Day using materials from the tool kits provided by WCPT as well as to show support for the Paralympic Games which were ongoing at the time of the celebrations.
