More awareness needed of PT contribution to national economies

Physical therapists need to increase awareness about their contribution to national economies by constantly “selling and telling” about the profession, WCPT’s Secretary General Brenda Myers has said.

Speaking after attending the Global Forum on Human Resources in Brazil, she said that such events often demonstrated to her that it was wrong to assume that everyone knows what physical therapists do.  View the interview on WCPT's YouTube channel.

Governments need to know that physical therapists and rehabilitation teams make a vital contribution to countries’ economies, she pointed out. Inability to work because of disability results in loss of 3.7% of gross domestic product, according to the International Labour Organization.
