As in previous years, the Benin Association of Physiotherapists (ABEKIR) celebrated World Physical Therapy Day. The activities centred around this year’s “Fit to take part” theme and took place over several days.
A free clinic was offered for children with disabilities at Community Based Rehabilitation (CBR) centers. Usually these children are treated by volunteers from the community who often do not have the necessary skills. Physiotherapists were able to provide assessments and give suggestions to the children’s parents and caregivers.
ABEKIR also organised a lecture on the theme "International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF)". It was attended by all those involved in rehabilitation, including physical therapists, speech therapists and prosthetists. The message was that the various specialties must work together to better care for those with disabilities and that better evaluation through items already internationally validated was needed.
