To celebrate this year’s World Physical Therapy Day, the Malta Association of Physiotherapists (MAP) held an event at Inspire Foundation Malta (a local NGO that provides therapeutic, education and leisure services to persons with disabilities) on 7th September.
To be in line with this year’s theme “Fit to take Part”, the main aim of this event was to involve individuals with different abilities in physical activity since physiotherapists around the world are of the strong opinion that having a long-term illness or disability should not inhibit an individual to lead a fulfilled life.
The parliament secretary for Ministry responsible for Health Chris Fearne opened the activities together with the Association’s president Mr. Matthew Azzopardi and Inspire’s CEO Nathan Farrugia. A morning walk was held for the local people of all ages, outdoor water games were held for children while at the same time exercise classes were held for adults indoors.
This event was used as an opportunity for members of the association to raise awareness to the general public about the physiotherapy profession. This year the message promoted was that any problems a person may have with regards to mobility, one can ask a physiotherapist who is the best expert in movement and exercise.
