Sri Lanka Society of Physiotherapy

To celebrate World Physical Therapy Day 2016, the Sri Lanka Society of Physiotherapy organised several activities to educate the Sri Lankan public regarding various aspects of physiotherapy.

 

The Charted Society of Physiotherapy Sri Lanka

The Charted Society of Physiotherapy Sri Lanka (CSPSL), with the Ministry of Sports Sri Lanka, organised several events to celebrate World Physical Therapy Day 2016.

Their aim was to organise several programmes to promote the profession amongst the nation and advance the use of the profession by public. To achieve this public awareness programmes about the physiotherapy profession were carried out, this included sixteen free clinics held throughout the year. On 8th September an awareness programme was held on the prevention of sports injuries.

 

University of Colombo

The students of the Department of Allied Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo, Sri Lanka, organised an “Inter School Quiz Competition” to mark the “World Physiotherapy Day 2016” on 9th of September 2016 at the Auditorium of Department of Surgery, National Hospital of Sri Lanka. The event was aimed towards the students and the teachers of selected leading schools island wide.

The Vice Chancellor of University of Colombo graced this occasion as the chief guest. Also the Dean and the academic staff of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo attended. Members of the Sri Lanka Society of Physiotherapists, members of the Government Physiotherapists’ Association, physiotherapists of National Hospital, Lady Ridgeway Hospital and B.Sc. Physiotherapy graduates of Colombo University were also invited.

The “Add life to years” message was conveyed to school children, teachers and the general public, emphasising the importance of physiotherapy and the role of the physiotherapist.

The celebrations were a huge success.
