Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPMR), Khyber Medical University Peshawar
World Physical Therapy Day 2016 was celebrated jointly by all the leading stakeholders related to physical therapy (universities, service providers and association) in the Institute of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (IPMR), Khyber Medical University Peshawar. The event was a great success with participation of more than 500 physical therapy students, university faculty, physical therapy and management professionals from different service providers and also members of the Pakistan Physical Therapy Association (PPTA). Presentations were given regarding history, advancement, contributions and challenges in the field of physiotherapy. Stalls were set up by universities and service providers promoting physical therapy education, research, services and use of equipment and assistive devices for people with physical challenges. After the indoor session, people from different walks of life joined hands for an awareness walk to raise awareness about physical therapy education and services. Chief Guest, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Hafiz Ullah, Vice Chancellors of Khyber Medical University Peshawar, thanked the audience and appreciated the stakeholders for their joint efforts in celebrating World Physical Therapy Day.
Presentations given by students, faculty and clinical professionals included topics such as historical perspective of physical therapy in Pakistan, advancements and the future of physical therapy in Pakistan, contribution of physical therapy to society. Service providers presented “Physical therapy services for children with disability focusing on clubfoot” and “Physical therapy services for cerebral palsy children”. The member of association presented “Challenges in the field of physical therapy”.
Isra Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences, Isra University
The Isra Institute of Rehabilitation Sciences celebrated World Physical Therapy day 2016 in collaboration with the International Academy of Rehabilitation Sciences research & Education.
Special persons and physically handicapped children participated showing the strength towards profession, this was followed by a motivational speech by Principal IIRS Dr Muhammad Naveed babur , who spoke about the physiotherapy profession and its services to the community, a cake cutting ceremony then took place.
The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH)
The AKUH Physical Therapy Department celebrated ‘’World Physical Therapy Day’’ on 8th September with the following activities:
- Cake cutting ceremony by Chief Guest with HR Senior Leadership & respectable Physiotherapy Staff (PT’s, OT’s, ST’s Rehab Nurses and Physiotherapy Aides)
- Beautiful decoration of Department and Sports & Rehab Center
- Poster competition, awarding 1st, 2nd & 3rd prize winners.
- Setting of stall in the hospital main courtyard for the general public:
- Q/A regarding Rehabilitation Services Information
- Offering Free BMI Checkup, Brief Micro-fit assessment and BP
- Physiotherapy information flyers and booklets for distribution
- Distribution of World Physical Therapy Day badges and mugs
Allama Iqbal Memorial Trust Hospital
Celebrations were held for World physical Therapy Day 2016 at Allama Iqbal Memorial Trust Hospital. A cake cutting ceremony was arranged. Afterwards a physiotherapy camp was arranged to offer health services such as BMI, Obesity, exercise and fitness advice, arthritis, back pain & musculoskeletal pain syndromes, stroke rehabilitation advice was offered to all the patients. The event was successful and was very informative to the public and patients. The day gained coverage in the media.
