The 20th Annual General Meeting of WCPT’s North America Caribbean Region was held in April, in Miami, Florida, USA.
The American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) acted as hosts to 10 of the 14 member organisations, with representatives attending from Bahamas, Barbados, Bermuda, Canada, Guyana, Jamaica, Panama, Suriname, Trinidad &Tobago and USA. The physical therapy association from St Lucia was also represented, as an observer.
A mini in-house symposium on direct access and scope of practice was presented by Scott Ward, President of APTA; Michel Landry, President of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association (CPA); and Alice Aiken, also of the CPA. There was input from Brenda Myers, WCPT’s Secretary General, via teleconferencing.
“Healthy discussion ensued,” says Stacy de Gale, Chair of the NACR Region. “The appetites of members were opened to participate in the upcoming International Direct Access and Advanced Scope of Practice Summit, being hosted by APTA, CPA and the WCPT in October 2009.”
“The NACR continues to be a diverse and vibrant group, who continue to work towards Moving Physical Therapy Forward throughout the year. We are looking forward to meeting again in Suriname next year.”
