Focused symposium: Physical therapy leadership in disability and HIV: sharing international perspectives

Speakers: Stephanie Nixon (Canada), Gabriela Abbud (Brazil), Julie Hard (Canada), Hellen Myezwa (South Africa), Kelly O'Brien (Canada)

This symposium was specifically designed for the WCPT insofar as it focuses on the role of physical therapy in a global health context, with a spotlight on HIV. HIV and associated disability is emerging as a major issue worldwide, yet insight is limited amongst physical therapists regarding clinical, research, education and advocacy opportunities. This symposium provided both basic information and cutting-edge examples of physiotherapy leadership from South Africa, Brazil and Canada noting synergies in efforts around the world.

Length of session: 1.5 hours
