The department of physiotherapy in St. James’s Hospital, Ireland, organised a week-long event to mark World Physical Therapy Day from 10th to 14th September 2012. Free fitness classes were provided to promote physical activities amongst members of staff in the hospital. Introductory yoga and Pilates classes were conducted by experienced physiotherapists in the area. There were talks and demonstrations on strengthening and conditioning given by physiotherapists with relevant knowledge in the field. A lunchtime walking club was also put in place all week for those who could not attend the yoga and Pilates classes.
Activities for the week were given a slot on the hospital’s intranet to promote and increase awareness for the event amongst members of staff.
Overall, the “Fit for life” campaign message was well received in the hospital judging by feedback received from members of staff.
