WCPT's policy consultant elected to WHO advisory body

WCPT’s Professional Policy Consultant Catherine Sykes has been elected to co-chair the World Health Organization’s advisory group on the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF).  This is the first time that someone representing an non-governmental organisation in official relations with WHO has been elected to such a position.

The ICF is a framework and classification system to describe functioning and disability in relation to a health condition, and has become a globally accepted means of organising information and enabling consistent data collection. The Functioning and Disability Reference Group has advised WHO on functioning and disability data since 2006, and Catherine Sykes has been a member since that date. She will now chair the group, along with Andrea Martinuzzi, a neurophysiologist from Italy.

WCPT has an ICF Network and provides information on ICF. Physical therapists using ICF in their practice and interested in joining the network should contact Catherine at csykes@wcpt.org
