Dr Julio F Fiore Jr is an Assistant Professor at McGill University’s Department of Surgery in Canada. He is a physiotherapist with clinical and research interests primarily focused on improving postoperative outcomes after major surgeries. His academic career builds on over 10 years of research training in prestigious institutions in Brazil (Federal University of Sao Paulo), Australia (Melbourne University and LaTrobe University) and Canada (McGill University). His research program focuses on measurement of surgical outcomes and interventions to prevent postoperative complications and enhance surgical recovery. This includes pre- and post-operative exercise training and reorganization of perioperative care into pathways. Dr. Fiore has published extensively in the fields of surgery, physiotherapy and outcome measurement. Most recent work includes a randomized controlled trial assessing the impact of assisted early mobilization after colorectal surgery and a systematic review on patient-reported outcome measurement in abdominal surgery. He has delivered numerous presentations to audiences worldwide, received multiple awards, participated in the development of perioperative care guidelines and accrued significant grant funding to pursue his research program. He currently holds leadership positions at McGill’s Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation, Injury Repair and Recovery Program and is co-director of the Surgeon Scientist Program.
