Dr Bhanu Ramaswamy OBE is an Independent Physiotherapy Consultant based in Sheffield (UK), and an Honorary Visiting Fellow at Sheffield Hallam University.
Having qualified at the School of Physiotherapy, Cardiff in 1988, Bhanu’s clinical and academic practice in the UK and abroad has been driven by her specialist physiotherapy fields in elder rehabilitation and neurology, with recognised expertise in Parkinson’s management. A varied career includes appointment as a Consultant Physiotherapist leading a Intermediate Care ward, and one of the first physiotherapists to gain a non-medical prescribing qualification in 2006.
During her career in the UK’s National Health Service, and now, the charity and independent sectors, Bhanu has contributed to professional book chapters, international guidelines and standards of clinical practice, and has been an invited speaker to numerous international conferences.Bhanu received a Fellowship of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy in 2014 in recognition for her collaborative service to physiotherapy, and became an Officer of the British Empire in 2016, the same year as she was awarded her Doctorate in Professional studies. The methodology of her thesis was participatory action research with co-researchers with Parkinson’s, driving forward innovative ideas so healthcare staff might reconceptualise their views and management of Parkinson’s.
