Former Chairperson of Nepal Physiotherapy Association NEPTA (2014-2018), Shakya has been a promoter of physical therapy profession and services liaising with key health stakeholders in Nepal. He served as a National Consultant for Nepal Health Sector Support Program, aiming to ensure implementation of Rehabilitation services by National and INGOs are in line with clinical best practice and lessons learned about effective delivery of rehabilitation services. With presentations such as “Scopes and Challenges of Physiotherapy Profession in Nepal”, "Scope of physiotherapy and rehabilitation services for post hospital care in Nepal", he is actively involved in national policy level documents. He contributed to WCPT report in disaster management 2016 and spoke in one of the Discussion sessions at WCPT Congress 2017. He has participated as a member of Technical Working Group in the WHO ‘Package of Priority Rehabilitation Interventions’, workshop and also attended a meeting titled, ‘Rehabilitation 2030 in South-east Asia’ hosted by WHO in 2018. His other areas of Interests are Global Health, Policies, Leadership and Disability. Currently working as a Senior Lecturer at Kathmandu University school of Medical Sciences and advisor for NEPTA and now pursuing a PhD in Global Health at Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway.
