Steven is the Professor of Health Services Research at the Queensland University of Technology, and Principal Research Fellow in the Centre for Functioning and Health Research (a collaborative multi-institutional research centre he established with colleagues) in Brisbane, Australia.

He completed his physiotherapy training at The University of Queensland and has clinical and research experience in hospitals and private practice. He also has a PhD in health economics (The University of Queensland) and leads the Health Management discipline at the Queensland University of Technology.

He conducts applied clinical and health service research having been awarded consecutive (NHMRC/MRFF) competitive fellowships for the duration of his research career. He has been awarded >70 competitive research grants (>$10 million) as a chief investigator, and delivered >50 keynote, invited or podium presentations at international and national meetings in the past 5 years.

In the past 5 years he also has >140 journal publications, most as lead or senior author. His research has been published in field leading journals including The Lancet, JAMA - Internal Medicine, PLoS Medicine, and Pain (among others) and cited by the World Health Organisation and World Bank.  

Steven enjoys being active at the beach and jogging in his local neighbourhood.
