Bio
Dr Nikhil Sharma is a Consultant Neurologist at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queens Square, London and Principal Investigator at University College London. He qualified at the University of Liverpool and completed his general medical and neurology training at different hospitals in Leeds and London. In 2007 he was awarded a PhD by the University of Cambridge. His PhD work focused on motor imagery and functional magnetic imaging to explore neuroplasticity and neurodegeneration in large-scale motor networks and was funded by Brain Entry Scholarship, UK Stroke Association & Raymond and Beverly Sackler fellowships. He spent a number of years as a visiting post-doctoral fellow at the National Institute of Health in the US and was awarded the prestigious NRSA fellowship. His work used transcranial magnetic stimulation, functional and structural imaging to better understand plasticity of the human motor system. His research program brings together these skills to develop an innovative approach to better understand diseases of the motor system. More specifically he uses ‘system-level’ neuroscience to better understand plasticity of motor system and it’s response to neurodegenerative diseases. More details can be found at www.thesharmalab.com
