Adrian is a physiotherapist and Early Career Research Fellow. In 2017 he was awarded an Australian National Health and Medical Research Council Fellowship to conduct research on the overdiagnosis and overtreatment of low back pain. His other research interests include optimising primary healthcare, and the communication of research evidence to the public. Adrian developed specific expertise in patient education for acute low back pain after leading a major randomised trial of Explain Pain in 2014. Adrian worked as a musculoskeletal physiotherapist in primary care for 10 years before completing a PhD in Medicine from the University of New South Wales, where he was supervised by Prof Lorimer Moseley and A/Prof James McAuley. He currently holds a research-focused position at the School of Public health, University of Sydney and works within the Wiser Healthcare Research Collaboration. He has published 40 papers relating to low back pain, optimal physiotherapy care, and patient communication, in leading journals such as BMJ, JAMA Internal Medicine, CMAJ, and PLOS Medicine.
