Francesco Barbabella, Ph.D., is a social scientist working as Associate Researcher and EU Project Manager at the Linnaeus University in Växjö (Sweden), as well as co-founder and Senior Project Manager at Tech4Care srl, an innovative start-up based in Ancona (Italy). He is also Research Fellow at the Centre for Socio-Economic Research on Ageing of the National Institute of Health and Science on Ageing (INRCA) in Ancona (Italy). His research focuses on health, social and policy issues of ageing societies, including also research and R&D work for developing and testing new technologies for improving health and care services. He co-authored over 40 scientific publications and over 60 presentations at conferences in Europe and beyond, including various policy reports and briefs published by the World Health Organization (WHO) Europe and the European Commission. He had been invited speaker, chair and panellist to the two editions of the Global Forum on Innovations for Ageing Populations in 2013 and 2015, organised by the WHO Centre for Health Development in Kobe (Japan). At Tech4Care srl, he is supervising the R&D work of the VR-RELIEF project, aimed at developing prototypes for chronic pain management based on mHealth and Internet-of-Things (IoT) wearable technologies.
