Bangladesh: World PT Day 2018

The Bangladesh Physiotherapy Association (BPA) observes World Physical Therapy Day each year on 8th September, along with other member organisations of WCPT across the world.

In 2018, in the morning a central rally was held in the capital city of Dhaka with participation of about 600 physiotherapists and students. The rally started from the National Martyr Monument at the University of Dhaka and ended at the national press club of Bangladesh.

The BPA and Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) jointly organised a seminar to mark the day. Where Mr. Md. Zillar Rahman, Secretary of Social welfare Ministry, presented key notes paper on physiotherapy in health care services in Bangladesh, highlighted the valuable contribution of physiotherapists in the field of health and rehabilitation. In his speech, he declared the establishment of "Bangladesh Rehabilitation Council Act, 2018" to involve the physiotherapist in government law and to ensure quality physiotherapy practice in Bangladesh.

In addition, the divisional committee of BPA also organised rally, health camps and discussion programmes in their respective territory to raise awareness of physiotherapy among the general population.

All physiotherapy institutes in Bangladesh, including Bangladesh Health Professions Institute, Gono Bishwabidyalay, Institute of Health Technology (IHT) Dhaka, Institute of Health Technology (IHT) Rajshahi, National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedic Rehabilitation, SAIC Institute of Health Technology, State College of Health Sciences, also organised different programmes (rallies, seminars, awareness programmes etc.)

By the influences of BPA different TV Channels, daily newspapers and radio stations broadcasted physiotherapy related programmes and news reports.

BPA also published posters, banners, festoons and other awareness raising materials as part of an initiative of a project “towards global health; strengthening rehabilitation sector through civil society”.
